‘Tis the season of reboots, and Disney+ is the latest streamer to hop on the trend. As anticipation around HBO’s Harry Potter series reboot (and its high-profile casting) grows, Disney+ is also tapping into the nostalgia by ordering a pilot for a gender-swapped reboot of Holes.
Starring Shia LaBeouf, Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Patricia Arquette, Tim Blake Nelson, Eartha Kitt, Dulé Hill, and more, Walt Disney Pictures released Holes in 2003 as a feature film. Now, it looks like Louis Sachar’s beloved story will be adapted for the small screen, and LaBeouf’s Stanley Yelnats, the main character of the story, will be gender-swapped.
Below, find out everything we know so far about the gender-swapped Holes series reboot — from the people working hard to make it happen to its very announcement.

When was the Holes reboot announced?
Variety exclusively reported that Disney+ has ordered a pilot for a rebooted Holes television series on January 7, 2025. It’s worth noting that a pilot order does not mean a full series will come to fruition, so take the announcement with a grain of salt.
