We are still in the middle of winter, but a lot of the spring-summer 2025 trends are already coming in strong for our closets (or at least our wishlists), so what better time to dive in and dream of warmer weather? This year, we are seeing a slew of solid colors like chocolate browns, yellows, or silvers — which offer versatility and an added dose of novelty — dominating trends but it looks like the safest bet will once again go to prints.
Prints have established themselves as a spring-summer staple throughout fashion history, so every year we will see a classic make a comeback. Some, like polka dots, are just undeniable when the good weather arrives; while others, like stripes have almost become synonymous with vacation attires.
However, other fashion prints that don’t immediately evoke idyllic summer scenes surrounded by palm trees are also on the rise this year. For example, plaid and tartan transport us to the Scottish Highlands to the rejoice of those who prefer a more autumnal color palette no matter how many degrees it is outside. We will also see an abundance of texture thanks to faux snakeskin picking up the baton from more traditional animal prints and, of course, florals for a pop of color.

1. Florals with a twist

Spring couldn’t start any other way: florals. Flowers sprout in fashion just as they do in nature whenever the season starts. However, for spring-summer 2025, they emerge with an added sense of kitsch romanticism with tiny patterns predominating. You might already be chanting the little “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking” from The Devil Wears Prada in your head but the truth is that the floral trend still proves that it has the capacity to reinvent itself year after year with the cosign of Vivienne Westwood, Victoria Beckham, Rabanne, and Comme des Garçons, among others, on the runways.
2. Nonconformist plaid

Who said plaid does not work in summer? This year, the compass points north and brings with it garments of Celtic origins where tartan is king. Alongside it comes earthy pigments that we associate more with the end of September and the beginning of fall: greens, ochres, and browns, as presented by Acne Studios with coordinated plaid skirts and shirts. Tod’s applies the same formula, while The Row makes the case for plaid dresses for an elevated take. Outside the traditional tartan, the plaid print also shines in Christian Wijnants as well as Schiaparelli, which show its simplest versions in black and white.
3. A different type of animal print

No need to worry, leopard print will never die but it does not need to be the first choice for animal print in the coming months. While leopard print has become a new neutral and essential way to add color in the day to day for many of us, there is a slow shift that gives prominence to others. We are talking about snake print. Dries van Noten showed it in everything from coats to bags, providing a contrast of textures that can be easily replicated. Even in the most casual outfits, just add an accessory or garment with this print (as we already do with leopard) to join this trend. Roberto Cavalli will convince the most daring, leaning towards opulence with matching shirts and pants.
4. Polka dots in all shapes and forms

Summery like no other print, polka dots are once again taking over spring-summer trends to add a sophisticated touch to any ‘fit. Compared to the other alternatives, they are a typical reference to hold on to when representing this time of the year and the high temperatures. If the other options are too autumnal for you, this one will be your favorite. Carolina Herrera and Nina Ricci, in their respective fashion shows, made the case for polka dotted dresses, with the infallible black and white combo. Valentino, though, adapted the trend into a suit so you can go and bold or traditional as you want.
5. Stripes on stripes

Productivity has won the battle and, even if we are going to have time to relax and forget about daily responsibilities in summer, the corpcore does not rest. This aesthetic, together with power dressing, continues the office siren trend outside the work setting and reinvents it with a fresher take. Thus, navy stripes and pinstripes coincide in the same time and space, in a power struggle between rest and deadlines. The length of the garments and the placement of the lines mark the main differences between one and the other. An example of this is Chanel with micro shorts and matching knitted sweaters combining pink and orange. The other end of the spectrum lies in Saint Laurent’s neutral-colored suits featuring vertical stripes. Stella McCartney taps in in a much more peaceful way suitable for out-of-town getaways, as does Collina Strada.
