Miley Cyrus Just Channelled Pamela Anderson With Her ’90s Updo

Give Miley Cyrus all the flowers for switching up her signature hair looks. The star has served up an edgy blonde mullet with shattered roots; then there was the jaw-dropping auburn era before giving us a masterclass in how to pull off the trending jellyfish haircut at the 2025 Grammys (a marked departure from last year’s gravity-defying bouffant blow-dry).

Most recently, at the SNL50: The Anniversary Special on February 16, Miley could still be seen embracing elements of the jellyfish cut – the lovechild of a bob and long hair. The stick straight blunt bangs. The choppy chin-length strands that skimmed her jawline. The brunette hue shot through with honey highlights.

But the look was also a whole new style pivot on a neat, curated bun.

Most noteworthy, though, was how Miley channelled not one, but two ‘90s icons on the night. The star belted out her rendition of Sinéad O’Connor’s chart-topping Prince cover, “Nothing Compares 2 U” with singer-guitarist Brittany Howard. All the while with an updo reminiscent of a certain blonde bombshell.

Characterised by hair stacked high on the head – with sections framing the face and a piecey, brow-skimming fringe – the ‘Pammy updo’ is an homage to Pamela Anderson, who popularised the look in the ‘90s.

Miley Cyrus leant heavily into its relaxed, ‘just-scooped-my-hair-up-off-my-neck’ vibe – first with a black one-shoulder gown featuring a tuxedo collar for the red carpet. And then a halter-neck sequin gown that was slashed across her midriff while on stage. The sexy, shoulder-baring style complemented her smokey eye makeup, too.
