Who would have thought we’d see the return of skinny trousers after years of wide-leg jeans and baggy trouser trends? But it’s true: Many brands are betting on the return of a figure-hugging silhouette for spring and summer 2025.
While skinny trousers in general are celebrating their big comeback this year, there are three iterations of the once-forgotten silhouette that have been making their mark on runways and street style in particular. There’s a twist to these new variations, though. From Paris to Milan, skinny trousers are being reinterpreted in a new light and boldly styled with modern details.
It’s no secret that skinny trousers are polarising and often considered difficult to wear—it’s why such a strong case was made for baggy jeans. However, the following reinterpretations from the runways are putting them in a completely new light.

Who remembers the so-called jeggings from around 2009 to 2012? The hybrid of jeans and leggings are getting a new lease on life thanks to fashion houses like Marni and Prada, which have been showing skinny trouser versions styled with button-up shirts, blazers, and other traditional business attire.
If the trouser leggings feel too extreme at this time, slightly more relaxed—though still slim—trousers were also shown on the runway in classic fabrics like cotton, linen, and twill from labels such as Acne Studios and Loewe. These versions are perfect for the office as well and look elegant with a crisp white shirt, loafers, and a leather tote.

Slim cut, but with a touch of hippie flair: Boho-style skinny trousers made their appearance in the Isabel Marant collection for spring-summer 2025. Decorated with lace-up flys and perched just so on the hips, Marant’s tight trousers are playful, vintage-inspired takes on the trend. Ideal with flowing tunics or cropped cardigans and cowboy boots for the ultimate festival look.

The slit at the hem is the detail that makes all the difference here. Whether it’s located at the front or the side of the hem, the point is to subtly break up the slim silhouette with a hint of skin. Brands like Mugler, Proenza Schouler, and Sportmax made black skinny trousers with a slit a key piece in their spring-summer 2025 fashion shows, and they look best with pointed heels or statement sandals.

The return of skinny trousers for 2025 opens up countless styling options—more than you may think. Whether the look is minimalist, casual, or edgy, the trend is a versatile one that’ll prove that it’s worth investing in the style once again.
There are a number of ways to approach the trend. Y2K style is still popular, which means you could embrace the influence of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Paris Hilton, and pair low-rise skinny jeans with a crop top. Skintight leather trousers will also be back on the streets in 2025. What’s interesting, though, is in how they’re being worn. In recent years fashion insiders would style their skinny trousers (if they wore them at all) with casual, oversized silhouettes. Not anymore—tops are becoming shorter and more fitted again.
If you’re not quite ready for crop or fitted tops with your skinnies, ease your way into the trend with a tone-on-tone look instead. Black skinny trousers will always look good with an equally black top to elongate the silhouette and visually lengthen the legs. An oversized jumper is still a modern way to approach the look, too, though we recommend pairing it with pointed shoes to give it a fresh, unexpected perspective.
