Kit Connor and Charles Melton Got Matching Tattoos During “Warfare” Filming

Kit Connor might have been among the group of actors who got matching tattoos in honor of the bond they shared during the filming of Warfare.

The Heartstopper stars alongside Charles Melton, Noah Centineo, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Joseph Quinn, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, and Michael Gandolfini in the harrowing film based on a Navy SEAL mission in Iraq in 2006. The actors play the group of SEALs as they’re hiding in an apartment building during the tense series of events.

The co-directors of the film, Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza, were joined by Melton and Won-A-Tai during a special screening of the A24 film for veterans on Wednesday, March 12, and spoke at length about the process of bringing the story to the big screen. At one point, Melton described how he and his castmates endured a three-month “immersive boot camp” in order to prepare for their roles.

“We learned how to move like the SEALs do, the terminology, military tactics, comms, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day,” Melton said, before revealing that by the end of the training, the cast all shaved their heads and got tattoos. “We all bonded, got matching tattoos.”

The tattoos say “Call On Me,” and Won-A-Tai confirmed he also got the tattoo — but in a place no one would see. Melton didn’t confirm who exactly got the matching tattoos, which leaves us to believe that Kit Connor was among those who did.

In July, Connor briefly spoke about creating the film and said that it was “beautiful,” calling director Garland a “genius.”

“The way [Garland] put the cast together wasn’t about anything other than he wanted to work with us,” Connor said. “I’ve never been on a set where everyone sort of came in, put their egos at the door, and just worked.”

Connor said that the cast connected in just a few short days of knowing each other, adding that one of the first bonding nights they all had was a night of bowling.

“We were together for two months and ate together, trained together, worked together, it was just everything,” he continued. “I love them all dearly.”

Charles Melton echoed Connor’s sentiments about the cast growing close while creating such an intense film, calling it “rare” when an experience “changes your life for the good.”

“It changes your perspective on a lot of different things,” Melton continued. “I think I grew a lot as an individual and became a better person because of the guys that were part of this.”

Warfare comes out in theaters on April 11.
