Writer-director Emerald Fennell is returning with a movie adaptation of Wuthering Heights, starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie in the leading roles, and the upcoming adaptation already has an official teaser and a poster. The chemistry between the two leads is undeniable in the one and a half minute teaser, but it seems that the polarizing take on one of the greatest classic novels already has the fanbase divided.
Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie’s romance in the Wuthering Heights movie has got the fans talking
Emerald Fennell’s previous film, Saltburn, was one of the most unexpected movies of the year, and it remained a topic of conversation in the months that followed. Now, it seems that her adaptation of Wuthering Heights is also aiming at a similar direction, with a complete do-over in many respects.
Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi portray Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, and they have significant sexual tension between them throughout the teaser. Played out to the beats of Charli XCX’s “Everything is Romantic,” the flavor of this adaptation is nowhere close to how one would imagine the original Wuthering Heights to be.
This has also left fans divided over the upcoming film. Many fans really liked the new dynamics and the offbeat presentation of the classic story. “Stunning,” one user wrote, while another said, “Can’t wait to see Margot and Jacob bring this classic love story to life on screen.”
Yet, there were many who did not find it as amusing. “Sure, take a dark, complicated, and conflicted tale of love on the isolated moors, and turn it into a simplistic mush of lust for six-pack abs. The dumbing down of civilization continues,” one user wrote. Moreover, another added, “This is a Saltburn 2 with different actors.”
As expected, the movie has already polarized fans, but things could change when it actually arrives at the theatres on February 13, 2026.
