Whitney Leavitt is one of fourteen celebrities who will take to the ballroom next week on Dancing with the Stars Season 34. Known for her time on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Whitney is one of the most popular stars on the upcoming season. She will be joined by her fellow Secret Lives of Mormon Wives co-star Jen Affleck.
While Whitney is one of the most anticipated celebrities on Season 34, she could have some unfair advantages going into the season. All of the stars should have an equal shot at winning the Mirrorball Trophy; however, Whitney seems to have a higher chance than most of her fellow contestants.
Whitney Leavitt is paired with seasoned pro Mark Ballas on Dancing with the Stars Season 34

When the pairs for this season were announced, Whitney was revealed to be with Mark Ballas. Mark is one of the most experienced pro dancers in the franchise, and he doesn’t compete every season. The last time Mark participated was Season 31, when he won the Mirrorball with his partner Charli D’Amelio. Season 31 was Mark’s third time winning the show.
The fact that Whitney got Mark as a partner gives her a seeming edge over some of her competition. While all of the pros are talented, the newer pros have far less experience than seasoned ones like Mark. Mark is also extremely popular, as he has been a part of the show since its early seasons. With a partner as skilled and popular as Mark, Whitney has a slight advantage over her competitors.
Whitney has an extensive background in dance

Another advantage Whitney has over some of her competition is her background in dance. While she doesn’t have any ballroom dance experience, she has danced extensively in the past. Ballroom dance is different, however, a background in any type of dance can help DWTS contestants. Contestants with dance experience are more comfortable with practicing choreography, learning new moves, controlling facial expressions in correlation with movement, etc.
Whitney has a lot of dance experience, including a focus on dance in college. While Whitney majored in fine arts, dance was the focus. In addition to her college experience, Whitney also danced competitively in high school. This is a lot of experience that will surely come in handy for Whitney on DWTS. However, this could give her an unfair edge over the other Season 34 contestants.
Typically, DWTS does cast stars with extensive dance experience alongside those with none. This inevitably happens almost every season, although it is somewhat unfair. Contestants with dance experience tend to always make it further than their competitors with none. One example of this is Chandler Kinney, who led the leaderboard for the majority of Season 33. Unlike most of her competitors, Chandler had an extensive dance past.
Whitney was announced well ahead of the majority of the DWTS Season 34 cast
Another slight advantage Whitney has over the rest of the DWTS Season 34 cast is how early she was announced. Whitney and Jen were the third cast members announced for Season 34, ahead of the general cast announcement. They were preceded by Robert Irwin and Alix Earle. Whitney was announced as part of the cast in June, whereas the majority of contestants were not revealed until September.
While it’s not unusual for DWTS to announce contestants early, it does give them a slightly unfair advantage. Early announcements give fans more time to anticipate the performance of the selected stars. This could make them more popular among voters, who help contestants to make it further in the season.
Between her partner, dance experience, and early announcement, Whitney has a lot of edge over her competitors going into Season 34. Whitney and Mark seem to be the couple to beat this season, although many of their advantages were sort of handed to them. While Whitney is certainly a deserving contestant, everyone should go into the season with an equal chance of winning. DWTS tends to favor certain contestants over others, which can be frustrating at times.
