This H&M scarf jumper looks much more expensive than it is

I fear I’ve found it: the perfect H&M scarf jumper which not only looks much more expensive than its sub £40 price-tag would suggest – but which is suiting to minimalist wardrobes like mine.

Let’s face it: if there’s one item of clothing we always reach for in winter, it’s a jumper. Cosy, warm, and worth spending well on. And your choice is, unsurprisingly, plentiful. There are turtleneck jumpers, belted jumpers, jumper dresses. But if you’re only investing in one new jumper this season? Let the scarf knit be it.

The scarf knit trend – as cosigned by the most stylish dressers in Copenhagen and London during their respective Fashion Weeks – feels like a natural continuation of the scarf jacket trend that Toteme catapulted into the mainstream sometime circa 2021. The fashion set’s answer to staying warm while looking chic, scarf knits are exactly what the name suggests: a knitted jumper with built-in scarf detailing, most commonly in the same colour and fabric.

Wonderfully, Glamour’s editors agree that the trend doesn’t feel to be going anywhere soon, either. Knitted scarf jumpers have an elegant and timeless appeal, meaning they’ll certainly have good cost-per-wear in autumn seasons that follow.

H&M, this year, has done the scarf jumper well. Their ribbed, shawl-collar jumper in dark brown feels like a warm, knitted hug; is a statement piece that will effortlessly see you through the season.

With its relaxed fit and dropped shoulders, the H&M jumper strikes the perfect balance between comfort and cool. Plus, the oversized shawl collar, elegantly draped over the neck and shoulders, acts like a built-in accessory – a detail that will instantly elevate any look.

As for the colour? Chocolate brown is the “it” colour of the season – proven by the fact that Miu Miu, Loewe, and The Row continued to lean on the earthy tone in their AW collections. Warm yet incredibly elegant, the shade of brown goes with almost everything in our wardrobes: from light denim to dark leather jackets; from minimalist gold jewellery to statement earrings.

Overall, this jumper is a great example of how knitwear is currently being interpreted – soft, textured, and with subtle design accents that make all the difference. It works just as well in the city as it does in a home office, for weekend brunch as well as after-work drinks. Style yours with straight-leg jeans and white sneakers – or pair it with a black leather midi skirt and ankle boots.
