While the first-time parents were reeling in joy over their new baby, McDowell also commented under the post addressed “unkind messages” the couple have received about surrogacy.

“It’s ok to not be an expert on surrogacy. It’s ok to not know why someone might need a surrogate to have a child,” he wrote. “It’s ok to not know the motivations of a surrogate regardless of what you assume.”

McDowell continued: “And it’s ok to spend less time spewing hateful words into the world, especially in regards to a beautiful baby girl who has brought a lot of love into people’s lives. That’s all for now because she just pooped and I need to change her diaper.”

Lily Collins and Charlie McDowell have been married since 2021 after getting engaged a year earlier. Her engagement came in the midst of the pandemic and shortly before Netflix’s popular series Emily in Paris debuted.

Despite McDowell referencing some negative messages about their surrogacy choice, the pair also received love and support from their celebrity friends via the comments. Emily in Paris co-star Ashley Park said “Mom and dadddddd.” Sofia Richie Grainge wrote “Love you all so much ! Congratulations.” Riley Keough who left heart-eye emojis, while Amanda Seyfried wrote “This is perfect.”
