Billie Eilish Joined the Jellyfish Haircut Trend. Here’s How to Get the Look — See Photos

Billie Eilish debuted a new hair transformation just before the Grammys. The “Birds of a Feather” singer got a major chop, opting for an edgy and trendy hairstyle that you might even be tempted to try out yourself after seeing hers.

Eilish first gave a sneak peak of the new haircut on Instagram. She posted a mirror selfie to her story. It seems like the purpose of the upload was to show off her merch, but we couldn’t help but notice her new hairstyle. The singer posed with her head tilted to the side, letting her brand new short layers frame her face like a hime cut or step mullet. However, upon closer inspection, rather than just cropping the front money pieces, it seemed like she opted for a short layer that went all around her head like a jellyfish cut.

She went on to debut the new look at the FireAid benefit concert in California. To go with the edgier style, she opted for a baggy white button-up shirt, an oversized striped polo, and a big polka dot tie.

Whether or not Eilish will give the new look its red carpet debut at the Grammys 2025 tonight is anyone’s guess, but we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw more jellyfish cuts popping up all around these days. With Eilish’s influence, we might just think about scheduling a trip to the salon. If you’re feeling inspired like us, here are some things you should know about a jellyfish cut.

What is a jellyfish cut?

ICYMI: Jellyfish cuts have been on the rise for the past year, becoming one of the hottest hair trends of 2024 per Pinterest Predicts. It’s still a longer cut thanks to the layers underneath, but the top layers of the hair are cropped like a bob. So, it’s short and round on top and long on the bottom, resembling a jellyfish. In a TikTok, hair stylist Brad Mondo described it as “a very artsy haircut” that’s “hard to pull off.” It seems like Eilish took the risk, and it might just help the style maintain its momentum in 2025.
