Watch Sadie Sink Sing as a Folk Hero in New Movie O’DESSA

O’DESSA is Sadie Sink like you’ve never seen her before: with slicked back Elvis hair, singing folk songs and saving a post-apocalyptic world. The rock opera, directed and written by Geremy Jasper, comes to Hulu on March 20, and Teen Vogue has an exclusive look at Sink performing a song called “Yer Tha One” for the upcoming film.

“You remind me of how beautiful some things are,” Kelvin Harrison Jr.’s Euri Dervish tells Sink’s O’dessa in the clip below. O’dessa is a farm-raised teenager setting out on her own with a plan to share her guitar songs with the world; the plan evolves once she meets Euri in this modern retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth.

Fans know, of course, that Sink got her start in Annie on Broadway, so the singing in O’DESSA shouldn’t come as a surprise. Still, seeing Sink as a folk hero with a guitar still does feel surprising, with her plaintive, southern-accented voice in a more stripped-down, optimistic, and earnest character than we’ve seen from the Stranger Things star on screen.

“We were four years into the development on the film and I was very down feeling like we were struggling to find our O’dessa,” Jasper tells Teen Vogue. “I got a video texted to me and opened it to find Sadie strumming the guitar and singing ‘Yer Tha One.’ It was jaw dropping, beautiful and I felt like I’d been struck by lightning. Sadie was O’dessa — a true force of nature, a force of hope in a poisoned world — and from then on there was no looking back.”
