The jellyfish cut is having a big, flamboyant moment in the spotlight, with Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, and Lady Gaga all wearing the double-decker hairstyle to the Grammy Awards last month. But we already know: there are trends that will be short-lived flashes in the eye-shadow pan, and there are trends that are are classic, timeless and surge in popularity for a long while. For the jellyfish cut, it seems Gaga has already declared the end of the trend as she’s been seen with only the top layer of the cut in recent days. In other words: a bob.
The multi-hyphenate has been spotted around New York City over the past couple of days as she prepares not only for her Saturday Night Live hosting and musical-guest gig this weekend but for the release of her long-awaited new album, Mayhem, on Friday. And while she’s still sporting nearly-black hair, her style is suddenly missing lots of inches.
Previously, Gaga was wearing her hair super long for the most part, with a shorter layer framing her face and a longer layer starting farther back, which creates the choppy, blunt shape of the jellyfish cut. But it seems she might have asked her hairstylist to simply cut everything to the shorter layer’s length, making her the latest of many celebrities currently wearing a bob.
The Haus Beauty founder topped it off with a fuzzy beret for a distinctly French vibe.

One element of the original jellyfish cut remains, however: her baby bangs. Her fringe still hits well above her bleached brows.

Of course, with SNL on the horizon, we’ll probably see Lady Gaga wearing all different types of hairstyles this weekend. But if this is what’s underneath, we can expect some serious bob inspo for a while.
