Trends move so quickly, it’s easy for them to be a flash in the pan, but one look that’s enduring, evergreen and just so delicious is dark cherry beauty.
Of course, deep red tones like oxblood and burgundy enjoy a renewed focus every autumn-winter, but the shade undeniably headlined AW24 to ’25 after we saw it everywhere on fashion runways. And it will remain a front-runner through the winter months ahead of us.
Likewise, black cherry nails and vampy lip shades always take off as the temperature dips, but it offers a sexy, even expensive aesthetic all year round, and 2025 will be the year it stays put through spring and summer.
Dark feminine energy will feature heavily this year. Already, Pinterest has spotlit ‘cherry coded’ as a major trend to watch in 2025. “Dark, sweet and such a vibe, gen Z and millennials will infuse cherries into their makeup, menus and mood-boards this year,” the platform predicted in its 2025 trend report that – after seeing searches for “dark cherry red” explode by 235% heading into January (notable, given how popular the search term was already).
Dark siren makeup also drew in 695% more searches with a focus on moodier, deeper tones, like dark cherry. And top makeup artist and founder of Sculpted By Aimee, Aimee Connolly, flagged “dark romance” to GLAMOUR as one of her top beauty predictions for the year. “The ’90s revival is set to evolve into darker, ‘vampy grunge’ makeup looks which were seen everywhere from runways to socials,” she told us.
Officially convinced? Ahead, our favourite ways to wear dark cherry beauty.
Lips
One of the easiest ways to lean into the trend is with a statement dark cherry lip. A traditional matte lip will give tons of impact and you can shape it to perfection. Likewise, semi-sheeny and glossy finishes feel ultra-modern too, and help things feel a little softer. We’ve even seen dark cherry lip oils add a sheer nod to the trend.

Perfume
In case you missed it, cherry perfumes are trending hard. Yes, they’re fruity and sweet, but they’re also bold, playful and seductive. Forget teenage body sprays, the Black Forest fruit has had a glow-up with a little help from tastemaker brands like Tom Ford, who launched a trio of cherry-scented perfumes – Lost Cherry, Electric Cherry and Cherry Smoke – alongside more grown-up notes like spice, leather, wood and rich florals. The favourite, Lost Cherry, has reached TikTok icon status thanks to its addictive fusion of black cherry, cherry liqueur, sour cherry, bitter almond, rose, plum, vanilla and patchouli.
